OVERVIEW
A new sustainable car park for service personnel will help the Army reach its net zero by 2050 commitment. Working with the Army to explore more sustainable solutions for its non-combat vehicle fleet and service and other personnel, Amey launched Project Taurus in 2020 to examine the potential Ultra Low Emission Vehicles (ULEVs).
The Project saw the introduction of 10 new double electric vehicle charging points, providing charge for up to 20 ULEVs, the first of its kind to be delivered to the MOD.
BENEFITS
The new sustainable car park will:
- Reduce energy demands and fossil fuel consumption and create significant cost saving across the Army estate
- As well as providing power for work vehicles, new solar powered, battery stored carports will help further facilitate the move to ULEVs
FUTURE OPPORTUNITIES
Solar carports and electric vehicle charging will roll out at six more army bases, further supporting the military’s ambition to move to a more sustainable future.
